Are you a business-savvy, finance-trained, exceptionally-organised individual who can juggle multiple balls in a fast-moving and growing business and still come out smiling at the end of the day?
Slack Communications is a strategic communications agency that works with charities, social enterprise and other mission-led organisations. We have experienced a period of sustained growth recently: turnover increased by 80% in the last financial year and the scope and volume of projects we undertake is also growing. We are looking for someone who can help us manage the business so that we can concentrate on delivering really great work for our clients.
You should share in our values, have experience of working with media agencies and/or charities, social enterprise and other forms of social impact organisations, and have a firm but friendly approach to getting stuff done.
About the role
The role is part-time and on a freelance basis to begin with. Should you love working with us and we love working with you, there is the possibility of this becoming a permanent and/or full-time role that grows with the business. You can be based anywhere in the world that has an internet connection.
We can pay £200 a day for the equivalent of two days a week. This fee and the number of days will be reviewed after six months and adjusted accordingly. We intend for the fee to increase in line with our business growth. With the exception of a regular weekly meeting with the senior leadership team, the position is fully flexible and can be fitted in around existing commitments. We offer professional development opportunities, including access to training, and encourage our team to carve out roles that fulfil them both professionally and personally.
The role will include finance and business management; client and personnel management; and strategy development. Among the activities this person will be required to do are creating and maintaining systems and processes to ease the running of the business; keeping clear records of current and future activity; developing and sharing quantitative and qualitative reports to demonstrate how well the business is doing and could do; and providing constructive feedback and solutions for improvements.
Working knowledge of accountancy systems is essential. There will be some book-keeping and finance-related activities, including paying bills, collecting payments from clients and working with our accountant to ensure we remain a financially-sustainable and profitable business.
Slack Communications is slightly unusual in that we have a virtual presence in the UK, Belgium and France. Therefore, knowledge of cross-border sales and service delivery in a post-Brexit world, Belgian/French accounting systems and French and/or Dutch language skills would be desirable, but not essential (we may also recruit an equivalent of ‘you’ in Europe).
How to apply
Please send a cover letter outlining why you’re the best person for the job, a copy of your CV and two referees to firstname.lastname@example.org before 6pm on Wednesday 2 March.
