Beautiful prose can engage, inspire and even influence a reader’s free will
It is important to know how to write effectively so that you can communicate with your target audiences and encourage them to take action.
Which one of those has more impact? They both mean the same thing but are written in entirely different ways. The words you choose and how you structure them will determine how you connect with people, command attention and inspire action.
Blogs, opinion-pieces, articles for the trade media – these are all tools that can be used to raise your profile and enhance your reputation. As long as they are well written. Poor writing can have the opposite effect. But would you know the difference?
Editors do, which is why they insist that their writers meet specific criteria before they will publish their work. From a narrative arc, through to evidence-based opinion, there are rules you need to follow if you want to be taken seriously as an ‘expert contributor’. Have you got what it takes?
Who the course is for
Anyone who wants to use the written word to raise their profile, be it via their own blog, LinkedIn or the wider media.
What the course will cover
Combining PR tips with writing skills, this course will teach participants:
– The basics: objectives, audience, messaging and tone of voice
– The fundamentals of storytelling
– What editors want and how you can deliver this
– The role and structure of blogs, articles and opinion pieces
– Headlines and intros that grab attention
How the course will work
Each week for four weeks, you will participate in a one-hour-long, live video call with Becky, your trainer, and the other group participants. The training provided in the call will be supplemented with a workbook and practical exercises, designed to teach you even more about language, readability and structure.
One-to-one feedback on your writing will be provided, while a closed Facebook Group will provide you with on-going support.
At the end of the four weeks, you will have:
– strengthened your writing skills
– have a firm understanding of what makes good content that will be published and read
– written a content plan to use within your wider communications strategy
– an article written, edited and ready for publication
