Would you like to perfect your creative writing skills? Perhaps you’d like to join our Creative Circle – a free monthly event that sees a small group of like-minded individuals get together to be creative, enhance our writing and storytelling skills, and have some fun.
Taking place every month between 7.30pm and 9pm BST, it involves the following activities:
Creative writing exercises
These are designed to get our creativity flowing. They are never too taxing and are quite short so as not to place people under pressure. This isn’t about writing a masterpiece in a few short minutes. This is about having fun and being creative!
We always spend a few minutes analysing a text. We think about characters, the choice of words used, the pace the writer creates and much more.
Creative Hot Seat
Each meeting, we like to give our writers an opportunity to put their work forward for some constructive feedback from the other members. The person in the hot seat selects around 800 words from a text they have been working on (it could be prose, poetry, non-fiction, whatever they want). They will then read this out to the group. Members can then give their feedback. Please note that this is a friendly and supportive group so if we feel comments are inappropriate you will be asked to stop and possibly even asked to leave the group. Constructive feedback however is very welcome!
The group is fun and informal, and small – we limit spaces to a maximum of 12 places. There are a handful of spots available at the moment and so if you’d like to join us, we’d love to welcome you. It all takes place online so you can join from wherever in the world you may be!
Dates for Creative Circle for the rest of the year are as follows:
Tuesday 13 October
Tuesday 10 November
Tuesday 8 December
If you’d like to take part, email firstname.lastname@example.org and your name will be added to the list.
If you would like to be kept in form of other creative writing events in the future, again, please email Becky and she’ll add you to the mailing list.
See you there!
