Supporting the accountancy body’s social mobility agenda

Executive summary

Slack Communications has supported the ACCA with its social mobility agenda, including report writing and round table chairing.

Challenges and objectives

The ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is the global body for professional accountants. It has consistently held unique core values of opportunity, diversity, innovation, integrity and accountability.

In 2014, it recruited Slack Communications to review the findings from a recent ACCA survey, which aimed to establish social mobility trends among its students and members.

How we helped

By considering the survey results against the ACCA’s own values and against the wider social context, we highlighted the case for the government, business and the profession to do more to facilitate greater levels of mobility throughout the wider British community.

Our managing director Becky Slack has also chaired a number of round tables on behalf of the ACCA, which has brought together government ministers, civil servants, business leaders and voluntary sector representatives to discuss the challenges associated with social mobility across the UK.

The results

The ACCA has used the report, Who accounts for social mobility, to draw attention to its work and develop relationships with key influencers from across government, business and civil society.
